Emergency movie release faces roadblocks directed by Kangana Ranaut

‘Emergency’ Certification Delayed Due to Mounting Pressure

Kangana Ranaut’s highly awaited film “Emergency” has hit a roadblock with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), stalling its certification amid increasing threats. Contrary to rumors, the movie, which was set to release on September 6, hasn’t yet been cleared by the CBFC. In a video posted on social media platform X, Ranaut clarified, “There are rumors that our film ‘Emergency’ has got a censor certificate. It is not true. In fact, our film was cleared earlier, but its certification has been stopped because of several threats.”

Growing Pressure to Alter Sensitive Content

Both Kangana Ranaut and the CBFC members have been facing threats, pressuring them to block the film’s release. The actress, who is also a political figure, expressed her disappointment over this situation. She highlighted the immense pressure not to include certain historical events, such as the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the portrayal of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, and the Punjab riots.

Everyone know that the team of “Emergency” has put their hearts with hundred percent to make this movie successful to release. However, such threats to the realities does not make any sense. The truth must be shown as it it is and it was there.

She voiced her concerns, stating, “If we are forced to omit these key events, what are we left to show? Should we just depict a blackout? This is an incredibly challenging time for me, and I regret seeing this happening in our country.” in her twitter video. The history created with ups and down with truths attached to it. If the movie is unfolding the truth, it is right to see by every Indian.

Legal Actions and Opposition from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)

The controversy deepened when the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) sent a legal notice to the CBFC, demanding a halt to the film’s release. The party argued that “Emergency” could “provoke communal unrest” and “disseminate misinformation,” particularly about the Sikh community.

In their notice, SAD claimed, “Such portrayals are not only incorrect but also deeply hurtful and detrimental to the unity of Punjab and the nation.” They accused Ranaut of using the Emergency era as a backdrop to unfairly target the Sikh community rather than presenting a genuine political or historical account.

Calls for Certification Revocation

As per India Times, Advocate Manjeet Singh Chugh, representing the SAD, urged the CBFC to “immediately withdraw the film’s certification to prevent its release,” arguing that the movie could incite communal tension and spread falsehoods. He emphasized, “There needs to be a clear boundary between the freedom of expression and the dissemination of divisive content that endangers societal harmony.”

Kangana Ranaut Requests Police Protection

In response to the escalating controversy, Ranaut sought police protection after a video emerged showing a group of men issuing threats regarding the film’s release. This has further intensified the debate over the film’s representation of sensitive historical topics.

As the scheduled release date nears, the fate of “Emergency” remains uncertain. Several organizations, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, have called for a ban, arguing that the film portrays an “anti-Sikh” narrative and mischaracterizes the Sikh community as “separatists.”
