Pune, India (Date): In a significant development for Pune’s public transportation infrastructure, the Union Cabinet has given its green light to the extension of the Pune Metro Phase-I project. The project will see the metro line extended from Swargate to Katraj, covering a distance of 5.46 kilometers. This expansion is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the southern part of the city.

The proposed extension, designated as Line-1B, will be an underground corridor featuring three new metro stations. These stations will be strategically located at key points, including Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Balaji Nagar, and the Katraj suburbs. The total cost of the project is estimated at a substantial Rs. 2954.53 crore. Once completed, the extended metro line is expected to be operational by February 2029.

This expansion is a crucial step towards enhancing Pune’s public transportation network, reducing traffic congestion, and providing citizens with a reliable and efficient mode of transport. The additional metro stations will also boost real estate development and economic growth in the surrounding areas.
